As you go across a period, electronegativity increases and as you go down a group, electronegativity generally decreases so both of these trends do support that germanium should have a larger electronegativity than phosphorus. Is there a specific reason why it's the opposite?

plz help me, i'm confused about this chemistry unit with all the trends for everything!
