Carlos Hernandez posted a thread about Russia and the middle east: http://physicsforums.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=11626

Loren Booda called it "anti-semitism", and Zero agreed.

Now, this is ridiculous. Even a cursory familiarity with formal education should be enough to let someone know that Arabs are a semitic people. By definition, anything said in support of an Arab state can not be anti-Semitic.

Not only that, but the thread's author did not actually say anything at all which could be considered anti-Semitic - even under the misconception apparently held by the two who responded.

Is the news not worthy of discussion? Are peoples' ideas about world events (even if based on conspiracies, rather than news) not worthy of discussion? Why was the thread locked? Personally I find the concept of Russia deploying nukes there quite worthy of discussion.

While you are right in saying Arabs are a semitic people, anti-semitism is used in common language to describe anti-Jewish opinions rather than strictly anti-semitic opinions.

That has more to do with common stupidity than with the opinions posted.
