HP XT178 Laptop

I have a HP XT 178 laptop has anybody seen the problem were it will not power on on ac or battery will not charge. And if i put the battery in and ac connected if I push the power button it will flash in 8 times rapid if I disconect the ac will get not response and if I remove the battery and leave on AC I get no response. HP tech support has no clue. Can somebody give me a idea of were to look
