In Superman II, remember the glass that trapped the 3 villians in the
beginning (which later broke and the 3 villians wrecked havoc on
earth). I heard branes function similarly. Branes can isolate or
partition things in a multi-dimensional spacetime. Supposed there
is 10 large dimensions and there are 2 3D branes that trapped say
Christians & Muslims. They'd be forever isolated.
Now my question is. Does the concept of Branes need strings, or
can branes exist without strings. I'm asking because they say
strings open ends can be sticked to a brane. Supposed there
are no strings. How then would particles be trapped in a brane?
Don't tell me that superstings can't make predictions or far
from true. I'm just interested in the theoretical concept of branes
as believed by physicists and whether branes can't exist without
strings.
If the answer is branes can exist without strings, then how are
the particles confined in a particular brane?
Tnx.
