Sir Edward Victor Appleton

edward appleton is a british nobel winner in physics (1947), he was awarded the prize for the discovery of appleton layer of the ionsphere which reflects the radio waves back to earth.

my request is if someone can give me more information about his work on the appleton layer (if it can be a technical overview of his work it will be much appreciated).
