transformers and tesla coils

i'm in the planning stages of an endeavor to build a tesla coil and i am planning to buy a neon sign transformer but i have read that you need to find one with out a ground fault interrupter.
is this true, if so is there a way i can pull the circut out after buying the transformers. are transformers without it readily availible?
