listening to the U

well i dont have a good site for a telescope, so i thought
it might be possible to listen for objects, i have listened
to a few pulsar signals on the net, what equipment
would i need, i can build for myself if necessary, is it
possible without having to spend hundreds of £ ?
could i identify what i am listening to ?
