Way too true...almost anyway. Departments expect you to only spend about 5% of your time on service though...of course, if you're spending 70 hours a week on research, which they consider to be 70% of your time, and since they count it all by percent effort, that would mean about 25 hours a week on teaching and 5 hours a week sitting on committees. :uhh:
One university I worked at actually required faculty to fill out time sheets. They didn't like me when I asked why there were no weekends on the time sheets. They don't want us to actually admit we work more than 40 hours a week. :rolleyes:
Reading this comic I actually started wondering how these number come to be and wanted to read the survey cited in the comic. Couldn't find it, though. Anyone having a link to where I can get it (free or paid or whatever)?
