Decoherence and State Vector Reduction

If I understand correctly, the phenomenon of decoherence can be used to explain why we see unitarily evolving state vectors "reduce" when a measurement is performed. Does that mean that the physics community in the main accepts this explanation and other attempts to explain it (such as Penrose's objective state vector reduction) have now been abandoned ?
