In my classical mechanics class, my professor derived an equation for the total kinetic energy of a rotating rigid body. He had the typical translational and rotational kinetic energies but he also derived another kinetic nergy. It had the formula

T=\sum m V dot (w X r)
Is this just the translational contribution from the center of masses rotation?
