I'm one of those rare people who eats to fuel my body. I'm usually done eating before everyone else has finished praying. Flavor was never a big deal to me for the most part, so I never, ever, reach for the salt and pepper shakers. I always thought of them as something to use to cover bad tastes. Lately though I've fallen in love with salt, it really does make food taste better, not just saltier. Does MSG do the same thing as salt?
No.
The flavour groups are salt, sweet, bitter, sour & umami
MSG is exclusively umami as far as I know.

MSG is used as something to 'enhance flavor' or however you want to refer to it.
Its also known to cause migrains, which I learned the hard way while in China.
