Space/Distance

Does space not equal distance? As an explanation of space curvature can we use these examples?

Point A is 1000 miles from point B and is 10 million miles from the earth.

Point C is 1000 miles from point D and is 500 miles from the earth.

If it takes 1 hour to travel between points A and B at a given velocity. Will it take less time, as measured from point A, to travel between points C and D at the same velocity?

Is observed curvature of space an artifact of the gradient of space between points A and C?

Energy

Physically, and/or mathematically, can energy be converted to mass? If so what volume of energy is required to create a measurable point of mass?
