Word Problems...

I'm pretty good at mathematics except when it comes to word problems. For some reason, I cannot comprehend how word problems should be written (as formulas). I can read a word problem over and over and over, but I still cannot come up with a written formula or picture for the problem. I'm curious if y'all have any tips that might help me overcome my conflict with word problems.
