Aww...I feel sorry for that dog now. By the way, thanks Ivan for linking to a site that I can waste all day visiting! :grumpy:
Ivan your first one was particularly good. A good friend of mine called a couple of years back to let me know that he and his wife were going to be in town, and he was telling me that a new mini-mall opened up in their town and the first two tenants were Curves and a Tim Horton's donut shop...side-by-side.
Failed at piloting the tug:
http://koti.mbnet.fi/~soldier/towboat01.jpg
The bridge didn't have time to open and the tug releases the barge as it tries to resist the current.

The deck is still low, but rising, and he's chasing the barge.
http://koti.mbnet.fi/~soldier/towboat16.jpg
And the engines are running again.
http://koti.mbnet.fi/~soldier/towboat19.jpg
In fact, that wasn't a fail. That was pretty darn impressive. Must be a kayaker in his spare time.

Though, the one for the firefighters has too obvious of an explanation to be as funny. It's probably a training exercise, where they use an old building that they set on fire intentionally to practice putting out fires, so have time to pose for a photo before someone decides the building is ready for them to use for the exercise.

Midichlorians are part of the fictional Star Wars universe. Like the "chi", the characters have access to a mystical force. Your ability to use this force is determined by the MC count.

No kidding! Also, I take back the guess about a brake failure. It looks like the entire structure of the lower crane fails at its cable begins to lift the load. Also interesting, on the right side of the screen, an object is thrown as fire erupts, before the crane hits. I tend to assume that it must have been a cable spool failing.

4/17/06 - ORLANDO, FL) -- A DEA agent who accidentally shot himself in the foot while demonstrating gun safety to school children is suing the agency, saying video of the incident has made him the joke of the Internet.
Lee Paige was making a presentation to children at the Orlando Youth Minority Golf Association on April 9, 2004, when he shot himself. Moments before the shooting, the 14-year agency veteran was displaying his firearm and telling students he was the only one in the room professional enough to handle a gun...

I was reading that they were found dead on their couch and were watching hockey game. Interesting that it all happened in one instant.
And how did they know what they'd been watching?
Does anyone know the cause of death? Drowning? Suffication from mud? If they were lying on couches, were they crushed?
Does anyone know the cause of death? Drowning? Suffication from mud? If they were lying on couches, were they crushed?
They were in the basement and the upper floors collapsed.
Edit:
The family of four were effectively "buried alive" and died of the resulting lack of air — as opposed to drowning or trauma, said Guilbault.
The Prefontaines were sitting in their basement Monday night, and believed to have been watching a Montreal Canadiens playoff game, when a landslide occurred on and around their property. Their house tumbled down 40 metres into a giant crater created by the landslide, 400 metres long and 600 metres wide. The four bodies were found submerged in thick sludge in the basement. Their bodies were found Tuesday night by firefighters who scooped away the sludge by hand, according to Michel C. Dore, the government of Quebec's emergency-management supervisor.

Scroll down to see an aerial shot of the area, and then further down to see a before shot of the house. It's not on a hillside...in fact it looks level.

??
I'll grant that the 20 or so feet in front of the house is nothing but a gentle slope, but look at the pic above it. Each of those terraces has got to be 40 feet if they're an inch.

A few weeks ago I had to buy a standard wire stripper/cutter, while on the run. So I bought one from the local auto parts store. At the time I needed to strip some fairly large wires - 10 and 12 guage - which was fine. But when I looked at the thing later, I noticed that it couldn't possibly strip the smaller gauges - 18/20/22 - because it won't close all the way. Everything looks to be properly aligned - the two halves are parallel to each other - and the cutter works, so it isn't just a minor manufacturing error. These things were designed this way! The gap is large enough that I could probably strip 10 gauge wires with the 20 guage hole! The only thing that actually aligns properly is the cutter.
Is it any wonder why there isn't even a brand name on it? Only the word "China" is stamped into the metal. The marvels of cheap goods from China never cease to amaze me. The trouble is that it's usually easier to just throw the junk away, rather than taking an hour to return it.
I'll try to post a pic later. I took a photo, but right now our camera software is loaded on an old computer that won't boot. Below is a photo of a similar stripper, but on mine, the small gauges are at the bottom.

That reminds me of Oliver, the so-called humanzee. This is a chimp that has some very human-like qualities, that many people thought might be a human-chimp mix. One woman and her husband took in Oliver when he was just a few years old. He was raised as if he was their child until reaching his teens. One day when in his teens, he bent the woman over a table and tried to have his way with her. She was completely as his mercy! IIRC, luckily, someone else came in at that point and saved the day. At that point they decided it was time for Oliver to go.

EPA, Clean Air Act FAIL!!
From the electric vehicle company Tesla's securities report:
We have incurred, and expect to incur in the future, significant costs in complying with these regulations. For example, the Clean Air Act requires that we obtain a Certificate of Conformity issued by the EPA and a California Executive Order issued by the California Air Resources Board with respect to emissions for our vehicles. We received a Certificate of Conformity for sales of our Tesla Roadsters in 2008, but did not receive a Certificate of Conformity for sales of the Tesla Roadster in 2009 until December 21, 2009. In January 2010, we and the EPA entered into an Administrative Settlement Agreement and Audit Policy Determination in which we agreed to pay a civil administrative penalty in the sum of $275,000 for failing to obtain a Certificate of Conformity for sales of our vehicles in 2009 prior to December 21, 2009.

Yes well aside from the fact these kinds of solid state controlled motors don't arc, then by all means let us get clean air certificates and emissions tests for home ceiling fans, home computers, E clothes dryers... In the old days of DOS a friend of mine was writing a device driver. The computer he was working on was in "work" state, i.e. every piece of hardware was on his desk, instead in the box. So after some work he finally was ready to test it and called everyone to witness the greatness of his device driver (and device - it was a speech recognition controller). Even it happened over 20 years ago I do remember how proudly he typed some commands only to get the following error:
"Out of paper writing drive D:"
The overall reaction was that everyone looked at the HDD and agree there is no paper in it.
That reminds me installation procedure written by by a friend of mine in around 1990. At some point (during presentation of the software to the potential customer) program displayed "Insert disk in drive c:" message.
An old one that's been around for a long time:
At a recent Sacramento PC User's Group meeting, a company was demonstrating its latest speech-recognition software. A representative from the company was just about ready to start the demonstration and asked everyone in the room to quiet down.
Just then someone in the back of the room yelled, "Format C: Return."
Someone else chimed in: "Yes, Return!"
Unfortunately, the software worked.

I don't get it.
Sorry, my mistake - I have edited my original post, first link contains explanation now.
But I am surprised - have you never seen how cyrillic alphabet is displayed when you use incorrect encoding?
I don't get it.

Impressive:
The address was deciphered by the postal employees and delivered successfully. Some of the correct characters (red) were written above the wrong ones (black).

I don't get the whole thing. All I see is a package with an address written in an obviously foreign language, then obviously translated character by character into some other foreign language. I don't understand the significance of either language, which one is original, which one is the transcription, nor do I understand what was written by a human versus what was written by a machine, or what emailing has to do with it.
Oh. OK. So:
The original email was written including a snail mail address. The email itself was authored using a Cyrillic character set (the curly ones).
When it arrived in the recipient's Inbox, her mail client output the Cyrillic as Western, which would have it come up in the recipient's email as îǺǑĚ.
The recipient then faithfully copied every incorrect character from her email (having no idea they were now gibberish) onto the package (the bottom set of characters in black on the package).
The red lettering is the back-conversion to the correct character set, done by the posties.
Got it.
