View Full Version : Hiding your ip adress through proxy servers?
How exactly do you do it. Is there a program somewhere that I can dowload for it? I kinda want to stay annonymous on the internet. Especially with all this "cracking down" that the record companies are doing to p2p users and stuff.
i don't know about software, but usually you can go into program options and enter in a proxy server (web browsers, p2p programs, etc. should have this feature). one site to find public http proxy servers is http://www.stayinvisible.com/index.pl/proxy_list .
i was checking kazaa earlier, and that needs a socks5 server for its proxy, if anyone knows how to configure that, that would be great.
Cool, thanks jb. [:D]
I can't find where you enter the proxy server address though on internet explorer. Lil' help?

Tools -> Internet Options -> Connections Tab -> Lan Settings

Ok now im using a proxy server from that site, but the ip guessing thing can still guess my real ip. How do I fix this?
Be sure you're using an anonymous proxy. The transparent proxies will forward your IP address.

Also there is
http://www.defcon.on.pl for proxies, they have Sock5 and Sock4 and Sock4.5, configuring such a proxy is just like configuring HTTP proxies (normal proxies).
I am using http://www.proxyswitcher.com/ it's quite good as it really saves time when you need to get some proxy servers. [:D]

Masking IP's slowed me down greatly, It's as if I'm on 56k. Unless you're browsing warez sites or some sites you're not sure of, I won't bother.

The chances of getting caught by the RIAA are extremely slim. There are about 2,595,656 downloads of the regular kazaa from download.com practically every week. Then add the number of people using kazaalite and other clients. You have a better chance of winning the lottery then getting sued by the RIAA.
I would stay away from proxies. All they do is slow down your connection.

I have a little problem, I was using DC plus plus and for some reason out of like 5 things that were being downloaded, i got a email from my provider that there was a complaint about me having copy right material that was being downloaded. Can anyone tell me how i can avoid this little problem?

There are some file sharing programs like Earth Station 5 that offer increased anonymity for those fearing the wrath of the copyright owners. (Not, of course, that I would encourage anyone to go out and download such material) In fact around this time last year when the first batch of lawsuits were coming around, I had thrown together a design for a more anonymous filesharing network. Thankfully, our lax Canadian laws have deemed downloading music off the networks legal, so I scrapped the project.
