In my opinion philosophy as taught in our colleges and universities has practical value but that value is well disguised under layers of mumbo-jumbo.

I think our philosophical academicians have ignored a responsibility to the common-good. A citizenry well grounded in philosophical fundamentals is a valuable asset to the community. Our philosophical professors probably do more practical harm than good with their narrowly focused emphasis on the fine intricacies of esoteric argumentation.

The best results that I can see coming from philosophy in the last century or so is the application of formal logic systems to computer science.

i once heard this somewhere: a philospher proves the jackasses of socity wrong, which, in turn, makes himself one.
