Short term memory

ok i m suppose to put equations like.. f(x) = 6 - 2x - x^2 and f(x) = 1/x into this equation (f(x+t) - F(x)) /t
i have not done this for 2 years, have no clue of the equation to switch it over and the professor just handed us 45 question with out any forum theroms or anything else... i guess he thinks were all genious... BUT I M not so if someone could tell me what therom or equation this is called, so that i can go look it up further on a website, or even better just give me an equation that i can transfer it from one over to the other, anything along those lines, i don't want an answer cause that doesn't help me on the other 3, but maybe a set by set on a made up one... just something, i m dieing here....
