Hi,
I am familiar with von neumann stability analysis etc. My question is, how do we know the real solution is stable to begin with? I know for a system of ODEs the eigenvalues of the jacobianmatrix have to be negative. The real part anyway. What about PDEs? Since if the analytical solution is unstable to begin with, it would be meaningless to require the specific numerical method to be stable?
