consider the following situation
a rigid sealed container is divided into 2 separate compartments (compartment a on the left and compartment b on the right) by an almost perfectly rigid barrier (ie a membrane), the membrane lets the water through but not the solutes
compartment a has all water and no solute
compartment b has part water and part solute but it contains mostly water
how would i go about finding the state of equilibrium for the system (assume Temperature constant)
i think this has something to do with the boltzmann equation
all i have done so far is calculate the volume of a water molecule and i am trying to work out the energy, and work required to move the water against a pressure difference of P but not sure how to calculate that or where to go next
any help would be greatly appreciated
