Say an acoustic wave is traveling through a medium and that medium is bounded by a second medium which has a different acoustic impedance. My book says that the reflected portion of a normal wave will have a phase change of between -180 degrees and +180 degrees. How do I know what the phase change will be? Is is sufficient to know the normal specific complex acoustic impedance:

z = r + j x
