The Nitroso group -NO deactivates the benzene ring towards electrophilic substitution (due to -I effect) yet it is ortho-para directing due to the presence of lone pair.
I wonder why -S+Me2 directs the ring towards meta-substitution though it has a lone pair (on S atom)?? According to me it should be an ortho-para director.
What is the reason behind this strange observation?
