I was wondering if it is always the case that the structure of spacetime suffices to determine the form of kinetic energy (so that Newtonian spacetime implies E=1/2mv^2, Minkowski spacetime determines the relativistic equation etc.) Does anyone know if this is true, or where it is discussed? Any thoughts appreciated.
