So I am excited because I got the TA position for the Mechanics of Materials course this semester at UH and am going to be running the labs. This week we are performing a tensile test on 6 different metal samples. I need to choose 3 steel specimens from the following list:
1040 Cold Rolled Steel
1040 Hot Rolled Steel
4140 Cold Rolled Steel
4140 Hot Rolled Steel
1018 Cold Rolled Steel
1018 Hot Rolled Steel
8620A Cold Rolled Steel
1113 Cold Rolled Steel
We are definitely going to test the 1040 Cold and Hot Rolled Steel but I need to choose a 3rd grade steel that has very different properties from these. Preferably one that exhibits a much lower or higher yield strength, ultimate strength, strain hardening, and necking properties.
I was wondering if anyone has some data on these different steel alloys and maybe could share with me their corresponding stress-strain curves. I will be doing this tomorrow, but I would really like to have some information for my professor before we get started. Thank you.
