Oscillating Circuit

Ok, so I want to run a single phase synchronous ac motor from a dc source. So what I was thinking (obviously not EE) is I would have a variable oscillating circuit from a dc source, through a transformer and into the motor. I could change the frequency with a variable capacitor of inductor. So here is my little drawing and I know it is just wrong, but what I am looking to find out why it is wrong and won't work. Or what I could change to make it work. The reason I am asking the question this way is that I am having trouble with wikipedia explainations and the like. So I wanted to start with something I can maybe relate to, a start point from where I can work from. That's the point of the drawing. I know that everything is wrong here and it won't work at all so let me have it, I may actually understand this way.
