so when you go through the derivation of the spherical laplace, you set the separation of variables constant to "l(l+1)". Everyone is like, "youll see why this is useful later". While ive seen it around a lot of places (angular momentum eigenvalues, orthogonality coefficients) I am not sure why we couldnt just do K, like in cartesian coordinates. Any ideas/elucidations?
