Discussion Overview

The discussion centers on the chemical composition of aphrodisiacs and their mechanisms of action, exploring both hormonal and non-hormonal influences on libido. Participants reference various substances and their effects, touching on theoretical and practical aspects of aphrodisiac preparations.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory, Technical explanation, Debate/contested

Main Points Raised

  • One participant suggests that aphrodisiacs stimulate hormones and may consist of cholesterol derivatives, noting the variability in chemical compositions across different preparations.
  • Another participant references a specific hormone, PT-141, and mentions the non-hormonal drug Viagra, highlighting its active ingredient, sildenafil citrate.
  • A participant asserts that testosterone increases libido in both sexes, contributing to the hormonal discussion.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants express differing views on the specific chemicals involved in aphrodisiacs and their mechanisms, indicating that multiple competing perspectives exist without a clear consensus.

Contextual Notes

There is a lack of detailed definitions and assumptions regarding the types of aphrodisiacs discussed, and the references to hormones and drugs may depend on specific contexts or individual responses.

aphrodisiac normally consists of what chemicals ?
how it works ?

Chemistry news on Phys.org
It stimulates hormones, so based on somewhat cholesterine derivative. But this is very brief knowledge. The nature of chemicals can change as there may be theoretically hundreds of aphrodisiac-effective preparations, but it has to do with hormones anyway, especially testosterone for males, and estrogene for females.

Hi,

This case is hormon-controlled case as specified in the topic above. Here this website references a hormone

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PT-141

Also, a well known non-hormone drug "viagra", whose active material is sidenafil citrate (you can find this even in lots of spam mails :) )

Testosterone actually increases libido in both sexes.
