So I'll be a senior next year in high school, and all of us students must take on the dreaded senior project. I've always aspired to be an engineer and I'd like my senior project to reflect that.

Skip down to the bold letters if you want to fix a problem with no context or idea of what's going on.

I had the idea to combine woodworking, metalworking, plastics, kinetic energy, heat transfer, blah blah blah, into a single project to display engineering basics and some grasp of what I know and what I can learn while completing a task.

What encompasses all of that? Cars. Yeah, but a junior in high school isn't nearly mechanically apt enough to build a car. Or even a basic car engine. Or a simple car part in a year. So drop it.

I also play guitar and a few other stringed instruments--and I have actually run out of cases. I've built a wall hanger for three ukulele, have two electric guitars with soft cases, an acoustic with a hard case, and my brand new acoustic has a stand. I've noticed it's been taking some warpage though, and the culrpit I can identify is that I live in Hawaii, and the humidity is taking its toll on it.

So bear with me. I'd like to build a guitar case with a leather exterior, wooden/plush interior, and a plexi glass or similar clear top. Under the clear top would be an array of gears, pulleys, fans, compressors--forming a dehumidifier.
I know almost nothing about humidity, with the exception that girls don't like it affecting their hair, I know a lot about guitars and cases, and the weight of them....please help me out! :D

If you can think of another proejct I should pursue entirely, I'm open to suggestions.

But my main question is whether or not this is viable, and if so, where do I start?

The way I figure, I need a wooden case built to size; some sort of compressor, water containment, fan, power source, hoses, motors, and a lot of nice gears and pulleys to dress it all up. I've looked up almost every variation of "how a dehumidifier works, simplified" and can find nothing to explain it to me. If you can, I'd love to hear it.

Thanks :D
