Not that it may seem to be a big deal but when performing a lab in Bio II AP a couple of weeks ago we were studying the structures of plant cells. When looking under the microscope, I came to a structure of about three or four cells merging off the epedermial layer of the plant cells. The structure, like I said before, consisted of three or four cells arranged in what looked like a hook with the last cell a bit more pointed than the others. After asking my biology teacher, he told me the structure was called a trichome. Its what plants use for defense against their predators and also, as I have learned, these structures, when present in great amounts in a small area, aid in preventing the cell from drying out.
