Brains' computational units (neurons) usually connect with more than one neuron. A single neuron is usually involved in many neural circuits. In the brain, the formation of information occurs by the addition of the direction of a signal. What is this called?
As a non-specialist, the only thing I can compare it to in electrical engineering is the DIDO method of wireless transmission. A DIDO system uses several transmitters to create an electromagnetic wave interference pattern that a receiving device can read as much more information-dense I guess per wavelength: http://nextbigfuture.com/2011/08/intentionally-combining-radio-signals.html
