SUMMARY

The discussion focuses on constructing a vacuum-formed alarm system case and the methods for joining its two halves. The recommended approach is to reform the halves with integrated lugs and holes designed for self-tapping screws, ensuring a secure connection. Alternatively, the use of gaffer tape is humorously suggested as a common engineering solution for temporary fixes.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of vacuum forming techniques
  • Familiarity with self-tapping screws and their applications
  • Basic knowledge of mechanical joining methods
  • Experience with adhesive materials like gaffer tape
NEXT STEPS
  • Research vacuum forming design principles for improved case construction
  • Explore the use of self-tapping screws in plastic applications
  • Learn about alternative joining methods for plastic components
  • Investigate the properties and applications of gaffer tape in engineering
USEFUL FOR

This discussion is beneficial for product designers, engineers, and hobbyists involved in creating custom enclosures for electronic devices, particularly those utilizing vacuum forming techniques.

I made a case for a alarm system using vacuum forming. How do I join the two halves of the case?

Form them again, this time incorporate little lugs and holes for self tappers :-)

Failing that, do what every engineer does. Get the gaffer tape out.
