1.How does you sientific therory of conduction explain why some materials are poor conductiors of heat

2.Explain, in terms of particles, why materials with small air pocets are poor conductors of heat?

Thanks in advance

i can answer the second point i think but not the first. Heat will not be conducted very well through material with air pockets because if the heated particle is vibrating and rapidly but there is no particle next to it then the energy cannot be transferred. However, air does obviously contain particles but because they move freely so will not easily transfer to other air particles. Because air particles move freely, this is why air is a poor conductor... if anyone has a better explanation then please call me an ignorant fool!!!
