SUMMARY

The discussion centers on the perception of economics as a social science, highlighting its popularity and complexity. Participants agree that economics is one of the most challenging fields, likening its current state to the early stages of thermodynamics. The conversation emphasizes that economics, being a nonlinear system, is still evolving and lacks the rigor found in more established sciences. This underdevelopment is viewed as a potential source of intrigue and interest in the discipline.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of nonlinear systems in social sciences
  • Familiarity with the principles of thermodynamics
  • Knowledge of the distinctions between "hard" and "soft" sciences
  • Basic concepts of economic theory and its methodologies
NEXT STEPS
  • Research the evolution of economic theories over the last century
  • Explore the implications of nonlinear dynamics in economics
  • Study the methodologies used in "soft" sciences compared to "hard" sciences
  • Investigate the current debates on the scientific rigor of economics
USEFUL FOR

Students of economics, social scientists, and anyone interested in the theoretical foundations and challenges of studying economic systems.

Hey
What is your opinion on economics
i think it is the coolest of the social sciences but i always wondered how scientifc it was and as a side note from your experince what is it like to study economics? from all i know it is definitely one of the most populur and challenging of the social sciences and perhaps all the things one could study

Economics is about where thermodynamics was 100 years ago. They are just beginning to peek beyond equilibrium. All their rigor is kind of futile because the economy, which is of course just an aspect of society, is a nonlinear system far from equilibrium.

Hey i think that economics is very underdevolped but doesn't that make it more interesting ?like physics before realativy and quantum theory?
right i think that econ is the most hard or the so-called "soft" sciences
