Discussion Overview

The discussion explores the possibility of a planet being filled with electricity and experiencing constant lightning storms, comparing it to Earth and considering other planetary atmospheres.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory
  • Conceptual clarification
  • Debate/contested

Main Points Raised

  • Some participants propose that a planet can have continuous lightning storms, citing Earth's frequent lightning activity as an example.
  • One participant mentions the violent nature of Earth's primordial atmosphere, suggesting that similar conditions could exist on other planets.
  • Another participant questions whether the lightning activity could be significantly more intense than that on Earth.
  • References to external sources are provided to support claims about lightning on Earth and in other planetary atmospheres, though the reliability of these sources is not confirmed.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants express varying degrees of certainty regarding the possibility of a planet filled with electricity and lightning, with no consensus reached on the specifics or conditions required for such phenomena.

Contextual Notes

Some claims rely on external sources that are not verified within the discussion, and assumptions about atmospheric conditions are not fully explored.

Is it possible for a planet to be filled with electricity and lightning, like lightning storms all year 'round?

hello Gold Barz, IIRC there is a lot of lightning observed in the Jupiter atmosphere, but I don't have a URL and am not certain about this.

not long ago I was reading some webpage about lightning in Earth atmosphere and it said Earth has several thousand flashes of lightning a minute.
Here is the page:
http://www.space.com/scienceastronomy/lightning_backgrounder.html
It said that most of this constant lightning activity around the Earth is up in the clouds. between clouds. so most of the bolts don't hit the ground.

So my answer, from what I've read on the web, would be Yes
a planet can have lightning storms going all the time, and Earth does.

I mean a million times worse than Earth?

The primordial atmosphere of planet Earth is thought to be quite violent. You may find these links of interest:
