Projectile problem

On the monkey hunter solution. y of monkey = y of bullet.
y(bullet) = Vo Sin(theta)t - 1/2 gt^2.
Then shouldn't y of monkey be -1/2 gt^2 only since Vo of monkey is 0?
Why is H (initial height) of monkey added to the equation?
