Discussion Overview

The discussion explores the design of an ideal starship, including its appearance, propulsion systems, and the presence of artificial gravity. Participants share their visions and preferences regarding these aspects, engaging in a mix of technical and conceptual considerations.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory
  • Debate/contested

Main Points Raised

  • One participant asks what an ideal starship would look like, what would drive it, and whether it would have gravity.
  • Another participant references a previous discussion on a different forum about similar topics, suggesting there may be established ideas or models.
  • Several participants express confusion or frustration over the relevance of the previous forum, questioning the need for comparison.
  • One participant recalls that the previous discussion led to insights about different systems and the feasibility of a starship similar to the NX-01, noting challenges with gravity, warp, and impulse drives, as well as transporters.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

The discussion contains multiple competing views regarding the relevance of previous discussions and the specifics of starship design. Participants do not reach a consensus on these points.

Contextual Notes

Some participants express uncertainty about the differences between the current forum and others, and there is a lack of clarity on the implications of previous discussions for the current topic.

If you could build a starship here and now what would it look like, what would drive it, and would it have gravity yes/no?

There was a http://www.scienceforums.net/forums/showthread.php?t=5017 about this on SFN a while back.

what is your point?

I want to hear the opinions members of this site have.

what is the difference between members of this site and members of SFN. many are members of both.

Why are we arguing (I am) about this?

i don't know why you are arguing about it.

it feels like an argument to me

Science Forum??

Dang y'all. Like I needed ANOTHER science forum on my daily list... I'm never going to get any work done...

it was a pretty cool thread, iirc. we found out how different systems would work. we determined that a cruiser the size and complexity of the NX-01 would be possible with the notable exceptions of gravity, warp and impulse drives, and transporter.
