Recent news - ball point pens work in space after all, and the old adage about the russians using pencils is incorrect - normal ballpoint pens work just as well in space.
So, why? Is it just that the removal of ink from the ball of the pen creates a pressure at suck the remaining ink along?
Or is there another reason why the assumptions of the US that led to expensive research on pressurised cartridges that work in a weightless environment were incorrect?
