There is a magic trick that makes them disappear, you only have to send a
meager sum to Greg, and hey presto all gone.

well, if I did propose a way to get rid of the ads here, would it be against the forum rules?

I think the way Greg does it is best, but i am sure he would be open to
realistic ideas.

Probably, but I would guess that quite a few people already have  With firefox you can even block out the yellow stripe at the top of each thread. Not that I would know anything about that

Aug17-05, 11:44 AM
yeah, that's what i was going to propose, using the adblock extension in ff. Normally, if you just block the iframe it comes back again, the next time you visit pf, but if you go into the options and just type in http://pagead2.googlesyndication.com in the preferences, no google ads ever show up on the browser again.

klusener, you don't even need to install adblock to block out a big chunk of ads. Personally I have heard that people can use a css file to block out a big chunk of ads (like 99% or so). I have heard too, that one can check out a "critic of google" (a company that "watches" google  ) on how to block out google ads with this css file. Also, to remove objects, I use, I mean, I have heard "remove it permanently" is a good firefox extension for doing this kind of thing. Although adblock probably works well too.

But seriously if you can afford it you should support PFs, it is a tiny amount
to pay for you get in return, where else could you go for such a wealth of
information and good company

Just out of curiosity, how much would you guys be willing to pay to get rid of the ads? You're already going to some trouble to avoid them - would you be willing to just pay some money and save your time?

mattmns

I would rather pay to support pf (in general, the idea) than to remove ads. Also, to remove ~99% of ads only takes about 2 seconds. It just requires putting a css file into a specific folder.

Well, I'm not really bothered myself about the ads. It's just that new people comming here may be confused. If they are non-physicists they may believe the ads are good stuff. If they are physicists they may get the impression this whole site is crackpot.
Anyway, I can understand that Greg needs money...

Will people seeing any crackpot ads please post the url's here so Greg can remove the ads ?Apparently you do not see the adds. There are very many crackpot adds. It would be too much to post the url of every seemingly crackpot add. There are just too many. For example these are the the four links on top of the main page that I get now (I guess that only one of them is not a crackpot add):

I would consider John Hagelin to be a "crackpot", even with his physics Ph.D. Why? When you invoke supernatural and mysticism as part of physics (yet, you can't define and measure these), then you have over-reached and gone beyond what science is.
