SUMMARY

Backster's experiments demonstrated that plants exhibit reactions to human intentions, particularly when he threatened to burn their leaves. The lie detector recorded significant spikes in response when Backster contemplated burning the plant, indicating a possible awareness of his intentions. This led to the conclusion that plants may possess a form of perception that allows them to distinguish between genuine threats and mere thoughts. The discussion raises questions about the implications of such findings on our understanding of plant consciousness and human interaction with flora.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of Backster's experiments on plant perception
  • Familiarity with lie detection technology and its applications
  • Basic knowledge of plant biology and responses to stimuli
  • Awareness of the philosophical implications of consciousness in non-human entities
NEXT STEPS
  • Research the methodologies used in Backster's experiments on plant reactions
  • Explore the scientific literature on plant neurobiology and signaling
  • Investigate the psychological aspects of human-plant interactions
  • Examine the ethical considerations surrounding plant consciousness and vegetarianism
USEFUL FOR

Researchers in botany, psychologists studying human-animal interactions, and individuals interested in the philosophical implications of consciousness in non-human life forms.

Backster wanted to see if the plant would have any other reactions. According to past experience, Backster knew that a good way to elicit a strong reaction from a person is to threaten that person. So Backster dunked the leaves of the plant into hot coffee. No reaction. Then he thought of something more terrifying: burn the leaves that were connected to the lie detector. With this thought, even before he went to get a match, a bullish curve rapidly appeared on the graph paper. When he came back with a match, he saw that another peak appeared on the curve. It was likely that when the plant saw he was determined to start burning, it got frightened again. If he showed hesitation or reluctance to burn the plant, the reactions recorded by the lie detector were not so acute. And when he merely pretended to take action to burn the leaves, the plant had almost no reactions. The plant was even able to distinguish true intentions from false ones. Backster nearly rushed out into the street to shout, “Plants can think! Plants can think!” With this astonishing discovery, his life was changed forever.

Ive known about this story for awhile, but is there any truth to it?

Wha? So plants are not only capable of thought, but they can also read our minds?

The plant had a strong reaction to the guys THOUGHT of getting a match to burn it... Sounds like some new-age fooey my mom would believe.

P.S. She sees peoples aura's...

Edit: I hope that someone can prove this IS TRUE, then what will the Vegetarians eat?
