We are trying to solve for the energy shifts for the states with l=1, considering a symmetric rotator with Ho=L^2/2I and the perturbation is given by H1=E1cos(theta).

We have solved for E with m=1 and m-1 and these came out to be the same ( I/10*hbar^2), but for m=0 we are missing a 1/2?? We can't see any mathematical errors, so we must be missing a concept. Any help would be great!
