A rod of mass 0.36 kg and radius 0.058 m rests on two parallel rails that are 0.12 m apart and 0.66 m long. The rod carries a current of 23 A and rolls along the rails without slipping. If it starts from rest, what is the speed of
the rod after moving a distance 0.12 m to the right if there is a uniform magnetic field of magnitude 0.85 T directed perpendicular to the rod and the rails? Answer in units of m=s.
My teacher derived the equation:
iLBx=(3/4)mv^2
I tried to enter 23 for i, 0.12 for L, 0.85 for B, 0.12 for x, and 0.36 for m.
I get an answer around 1.02. I know the answer is wrong, but where did I go wrong?
