International Year of Astronomy 2009

Back in 2005, we had the "World Year of Physics 2005" (WYP2005).

In 2009, we will have the "International Year of Astronomy 2009" (IYA2009).

neutrino's recent PF post reminded me about sciencehack.com, a search engine for science videos. Recently, CNN had a story "Scientists make videos for the Web" that describes new web-based resources for videos with scientific content.

Physics Videos - contests

Slashdot recently reported on Discover magazine's "Science in Two Minutes or Less" contest on String Theory. Brian Greene was the judge for the contest. The winner is String Ducky by Sandy Chase.

Such contests, which are based on submissions from the public, seem to have gotten more popular... probably partly due to the relative ease of producing video content with modern computers and user-friendly software, as well as the popularity of user-created content sites like YouTube....
