Beginning Research Topics. Academic Help?

Hello everyone. I am an undergraduate at Ball State University, pursuing a Physics major, with an Astronomy minor. I want to begin researching data on various topics in astronomy and I'm stuck. Where should I even begin to research? I'm interested in Cosmology and Astrophysics, really anything. I would like to hear from anyone who has researched these topics in college. Any help on where to start and what topics would be good for a beginner. The more data I have in my portfolio, the better. Any help please. Thanks in advance! ~Dave
