Discussion Overview

The thread revolves around guessing the location of a participant, referred to as "timejim," based on their playful language and hints. The discussion includes various interpretations of the phrase "where I Be" and explores cultural linguistic nuances, alongside humorous guesses about the actual location.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory
  • Debate/contested
  • Conceptual clarification

Main Points Raised

  • Some participants suggest that "cajun land" indicates New Orleans, while others question the significance of the phrase "where I BE."
  • One participant notes that the use of "BE" might hint at a Creole linguistic influence, where verbs are used differently.
  • Another participant proposes that the capitalized "BE" could suggest a location like Bermuda, while others speculate about Jamaica.
  • Several humorous guesses are made, including locations like a gas station, a police station, and a library.
  • A hint is provided that the location can be nice at certain times of the year, leading to further guesses involving turkeys.
  • Participants engage in playful banter about music and dancing, which adds a lighthearted tone to the discussion.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants do not reach a consensus on the location, with multiple competing views and interpretations of the hints provided. The discussion remains unresolved as guesses continue.

Contextual Notes

Some assumptions about linguistic usage and cultural references are present, but these are not universally accepted or clarified, leaving room for interpretation.

Can any of you guess where I Be (am at) right now and why I am there?
Don't say I am on my PC but aside from the PC, guess the above? The winner will get an extra card on their birthday.

Since your location says "cajun land" and your speaking without regard to tense, I'd guess you are in N'awlins (New Orleans).

How does that account for the wording : "where I BE" ? That's clearly intentional.

Creole...verbs are used in strange ways. Past tense doesn't seem to exist. "Be" is often used in place of "is." But I could be wrong...need to wait for the judge to give the final word here.

I thought so too...so the capitalized "BE" is not a hint, you think ?

Often the word ‘he’ will be used while referring to a female, provided those listening understand who you’re speaking about it isn’t necessary to trouble yourself (at least in the version I speak this is common). Come, mek I tell uno all bout dis ting heh.

I was going to guess the Bermudas, from the BE and the language...and the part about "why I am there" suggested jim was someplace other than home.

Gokul,
timejim does clarify "where I Be" with "am at". You may be correct to suspect a hint but I be tinkin dis jus da weh he deh tahk.

Ah, Gokul, you could be right, BE could also be a hint about Bermuda. I guess now we have to wait for timejim to come back and tell us if either of us guessed right

I can use my cell phone to access and post message in this forum.
A friend told me that sometimes when he was allowed to stay around with some of his known guys on the plane, he could also use internet.

*scampers off singing* She's about a mover... dat's what I say... hey hey...she's about a mover...she's about a mover...
