I'm new here and I think this is a fantastic forum!
Anyways, while I generally enjoyed the strip discussed in the thread, a couple of remarks:
In the title, it should spell "If movie science WERE more like real science".
I understand that the subjunctive mood has become quite unfashionable in modern English, but it is still the most appropriate grammatical form for a hypothetical or unlikely statement.
In the first panel "... with alpha <= 0.05 UNcertainty!"
... because a 5% certainty would make Doomsday movies actually 95% less dramatic.
