What reflects back on the President

or is he teflon coated? He could have been down with what was going on (and still may be). We know that the US has been sending detainees to other countries for torture/interrogation. How many of you still think it was a good idea to invade Iraq with little recognition of the consequences we would suffer either through the conflict or in the eyes of the world. Here, at home in the good ole USA, we’re aghast at the perversion and tentatively wondering if it could be true, even in the face of the evidence. The pictures are clear fact, as opposed to the reasons for invading in the first place, and I will add that if the, IMO, atrocity of invading Iraq hadn’t been committed in the first place, none of this would have happened, no serviceperson would be imperiled for a poorly conceived blunder.

I will paraphrase from a letter written in the New York Times (May 7, 2004) op-ed page titled ‘The Abuse Debacle: A Storm in Washington’ by Bruce Long regarding the Bush administration, “Indeed, the current administration has been able to “accomplish” what the Soviet propaganda machine at the height of the cold war could not.” Events and situations have conspired to show what many of us on this board have been saying all along, Bush and his teem are taking this country to H*** in a hand basket. Another, writer in the Times, next page, article titled ‘A President beyond the Law’ laments “…Again and again, over these last years, President Bush has made clear his view that law must bend to what he regards as necessity… The Constitution must yield to novel infringement on American freedom. … The President… has conclusively determined that the Guantánamo detainees… are not entitled to prisoner-of-war status under the Geneva Convention. The violation of the Geneva Convention and that refusal to let the courts consider the issue… cost the U.S. dearly in the world legal community… at the time claims of torture at Guantánamo seemed far-fetched to me. After the disclosure of the last 10 days, can we be sure? “
