SUMMARY

Consuming ox-tails poses a significant risk for contracting Mad Cow Disease due to the concentration of prions in the tail. Experts strongly advise against eating ox-tails, whether in soup or otherwise, as this part of the animal is particularly susceptible to prion accumulation. While the risk from ox-tails is debated, it is universally recommended to avoid ground beef and especially calf or cow brains to minimize exposure to Mad Cow Disease.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of prion diseases and their transmission
  • Knowledge of food safety practices regarding beef consumption
  • Familiarity with the symptoms and risks associated with Mad Cow Disease

If there were a danger of contracting Mad Cow disease could it come from eating ox-tails?

Good God man! The tail is the very worst part! It is where all the prions concentrate. By all means stay away from the tail of an ox, whether it is in a soup or still dangling onto the ox's behind.

Probably not from what I've read. Just avoid ground beef and by all means calf or cow brains.
