Octave 3.4.0 on OSX Lion

My Macbook Pro arrives tomorrow and I want to hit the ground running. I was trying to purchase the 2011a version of MatLab but the store is not functioning (At payment time it says "Page not found".

This is as good a reason as any to revisit Octave. I am not asking which is better (Oct, ML or any other product) but rather the following;

Does anyone have any experience with the Octave-Forge 3.4.0 .dmg file on Lion? Does it run well?
