Organic Chemistry Hantzch Synthesis


1. The problem statement, all variables and given/known data



2. Relevant equations



3. The attempt at a solution
I know the answer has to be a or c because you need the ammonia to make this reaction happen but I don't know whether you would want to use 3-oxobutanenitrile or butanoyl cyanide. Thanks

Consider the mechanism at e.g. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hantzsc...dine_synthesis - can you label the various functional groups?
