Latex Nomenclature in text

Hi all and thanks in advance.
i am using the nomencluture and i want the nomenclature entry to apear in text the first time i am using it in the document. for example:

the sentence i am using is: Atlantic water are colder.

in the latex code i type:
\nomenclature{AW}{Atlantic water} are colder.
my current pdf output $$ are\ colder $$
desired pdf output $$ Atlantic\ water\ (AW)\ are\ colder $$
is there a way this can be done using this package?

thanks again
