How could you buy such a thing? Think of the poor sad narwhal... :(

Siri can't spell narwhal.
Well, it was an antique, made around the time that whaling in arctic waters was a booming business. I have auctioned off or bid on other other whale-related items, as well, like scrimshawed sperm-whale teeth, but those are also too popular in NE. My pockets were never deep enough.

Things were different back then. Some of the most productive whaling operations out of Massachusetts were owned and operated by Quakers. I believe the Essex (holed and sunk by Mocha Dick) was a Quaker-owned ship out of Nantucket.

Melville's novel Moby Dick was based on the true story of Mocha Dick and the Essex.

Chickens are not vegetarians, I have seen chicken eating dead mouse.

What benefit is there from eating a chicken that was (I presume) forced to undergo a strictly vegetarian diet?
No! I didn't have a chicken that had strictly vegetarian diet. But as a matter of fact, I had no chicken at all! It was just cottage cheese made to look like chicken dish.

Relativistic Baseball?

Sorry if this is old news, but I've never seen such a thing.

When it reaches the batter, the center of the cloud is still moving at an appreciable fraction of the speed of light. It hits the bat first, but then the batter, plate, and catcher are all scooped up and carried backward through the backstop as they disintegrate.

Does "weighed mass" sound OK to you?

There is a sample that was weighed and I want user to enter the weighing result. But as weight is weight and mass is mass, weighed mass sounds a little bit off.

"Weighed mass" is a strange construction, yes. It implies there are two kinds of mass, mass, and weighed mass, as if weighing it makes it different somehow. As you say, weight is weight and mass is mass, so what you want them to enter is simply "weight" or, more explicit, "weight of the sample".

Measured mass
Indicated mass

or did you just want "weight"

There is another little wrinkle (unintended) - the word "weighted" implies that your measurements yielded a range of calculated masses, and that the results were weighted mathematically. Weighed mass (no "t") might confuse people.

Simply weighing a sample gives you the opportunity to use "weight" with no confusion. I hope that helps a bit. When I was a kid, there were no science teachers locally who were competent to help us differentiate from weight and mass.

I need distinction between just "weight" of the sample (which is approximate - 18 g can be anything between 17.5 and 18.5) and an exact result of weighting ("weigh exactly around 18 g of the substance"). Plus, space is limited to about 15 characters. But you gave me some ideas, thanks

Something my wife and I like to do every summer is head up to Seaside Heights, NJ for a day of sitting on the beach, getting on the ski-lift to nowhere and then taking a return promenade along the boardwalk. That ski-lift is in the news now because they stopped it because of an electric storm while there were still passengers on it. One kid panicked and jumped off. She wasn't too badly hurt.

This pic is going around Facebook. Took me a bit to make out what it was, and then it blew me away.

A funny thing about Little Tyke that I have never mentioned. When she doesn't want any more of whatever food has been put down for her [the flavor of the day] she covers it with a towel. Seriously! There is always a kitchen towel near her food bowl. No matter where I leave one hanging or folded up and ready for use, she will make a point of dragging it over to cover her food... to let me know she would like a change in the menu. And once she throws in the towel, the food will sit untouched until it's no good anymore.

Apparently we didn't feel like Salmon today!

That's so funny!! I had a cat like that, if he didn't want the food, he'd try to bury it with whatever he could drag over, but it seemed more like he was trying to prevent my other cat from eating incase he wanted some later.
